You know them

He's the guy who has worked his whole life.  He's paid his bills, raised his kids, but when he lost his job due to downsizing, things got bad.  He's too proud to ask for help so he does what he can.  He never lets you know he's hurting....

She's the young mother.  Where the father is, nobody really remembers.  She works with you and she struggles.  She makes too much money to get help to raise her kids and it doesn't look like she's bought herself a new blouse since anyone can remember.  She smiles, never complains, but you can see the worry in her eyes...

They're the retired couple down the block.  They haven't had a cost-of-living increase in their Social Security for the last two years, but that hasn't stopped prices from increasing.

They're the young couple that both work and that baby is so darn cute.  But with another one on the way, and no insurance, what are they going to do?

It's these people, our neighbors and friends, our co-workers, the friend of a friend of a friend I'm talking about when I say if we give $1 a day, we can help.

If I gave any one of these particular people a dollar today, I probably couldn't change their circumstances.  If you can convince ten friends to pool together, $3650 makes a bit of a difference, wouldn't you agree?

But I can't just write a check for $365 right now?  Neither can I right now.  But I can usually find a dollar a day and can afford $30, or $31.  You and ten friends band together, for $31 (31 days in May), and put $310 in an envelope with a card of encouragement on the desk of a co-worker in need?  You just made an impact.  And then you do the same thing next month.  If you can band together with ten friends, each of you can pick something worthwhile each month, with two left over.  Find twelve, and you don't have to fight over the last two months!

See, a dollar a day CAN make a difference.  You might have to sacrifice that afternoon soda or get the plain coffee a couple of times a week instead of the fancy coffee, but in the long run isn't it worth it?

I know people in need; people that are ashamed to ask for help but I know they need it.  Chances are, so do you.

And, please remember.... the idea here is to give something extra, meet a need, not take away from the fine work of existing organizations.  That's why I don't want to start something new to raise money.  I want you, America, to raise the money yourself and give it to your neighbors.  I don't know what's needed in your community, your circle of friends.  You do.

Just make the commitment.  And if you do, please make a comment here to let us know you're on board. As I said, there's no advertising on my blog, no way for me to make money.  I'm just trying to make the country a little bit better place to live, one dollar, one person at a time!
