Hi. Thanks for reading this. As the title of the blog says, I'm trying to find 250,000 people in America who are willing to make a small commitment to give away $365. I mean really sacrifice a dollar a day for a year and giving it to someone in need.
When you're done reading this, I'm going to ask you to do two things: One...make a commitment to give $365 away and two, share the link to this post from my blog on your Facebook page.
What got me thinking about this was an idea I had today. I found a dollar under the front seat of my car the other night. As I was thinking about what I could do with that dollar, how I could grow that dollar, the best answer I could come up with was to give it away.
Here's why:
By itself, that dollar could do little. There's not much I could buy with it and nothing that would last. But a dollar a day, well, that's $365. It's a little more than my utility bills each month so it's not a lot of money. Still doable.
I thought to myself, what if I could find 250,000 people like me, who don't have all the riches in the world but could commit to changing their life just in the smallest way, and give $365. I don't know where I got the number 250,000. Maybe it's because that's what my total debt is. I don't know. But 250,000 stuck and that's my goal. I want to convince 250,000 people to give $365. That's $91,250,000.
But don't give it to me! I'm not the guy who you want in charge of that kind of money! But make the commitment! And don't take away from what you're already giving. It has to come from the heart, be genuine, and just a gift. It's a dollar a day. But more importantly, it's a philosophy that we can change people's lives by giving. We can use our connections with others to share the idea!
Here's what I mean. I have 77 Facebook friends. I know each of you personally from some period in my life. My Facebook friends range from a friend of my sister's from when we were much younger to guys I've served with in the military. If I can convince 10% of you to do this small thing, together, we've given just under $3,000. That's money that can make a difference. You have friends that I don't know. If you do the small thing by posting a link to my blog, maybe I can get some of your friends to buy into that idea of giving too, and they'll share it with their friends.
So, where to share the money? In your circle of friends, I'm sure you know someone who's having a hard time, lost a job, going through a divorce, or having trouble with medical expenses. It's getting rough out there; everything is so expensive and a dollar just doesn't go as far. But what if ten of you pool together to help out one family? Or a hundred of you?
Please note: I'm not asking for money. I don't want anyone to give to me! (I'm kind of responsible for my own mess and I'll get it straightened out). What I do want is to just share the idea of helping others out with $1 a day for a year. It's $365 and most of us (even me, in the mess I'm in) can swing giving up $1 a day.
It's just an idea, just a challenge, just a way for us to make our lives better by helping out someone else. The other thing is this: What you give, give in private. If you took me up on the challenge, I'd love to know you did, but not what you did with the money. Keep that private.
Again, I'm advocating giving something EXTRA. Don't take away from those you give to already. Times are tough enough. I know too that not everyone that reads this is able to do this. It's just a request.
I'm serious about this. I really want to promote the idea of giving! If you think this is a good idea, please join me and share this with your circle of friends on your Facebook page. I don't get anything out of it. I don't advertise on my blog. It's just a thought I thought was worth sharing.
Over the next while, I'll be sharing some ideas with you about how a small circle of friends making a commitment to do this can really make a difference.
One more thing, you'll notice this is just a blog. No advertising, no anything. It's just one guy with an idea, trying to convince others that it's a good idea to help out our fellow man. There's nothing in it for me, it's not a scam, and I don't want anything for myself except to share an idea and just help make our little part of the world a better place to live in.
Thanks for reading this and God Bless you!
still thinking that this is a great idea... hope it takes off and goes viral!
